Overview
Microsoft Teams Premium is an add-on license that enhances the standard Teams experience with advanced, AI-powered features for more secure, intelligent, and engaging virtual collaboration. It includes capabilities such as Intelligent Meeting Recap, live translated captions, AI-generated custom backgrounds, enhanced webinar and virtual appointment tools, and additional meeting protections.
Features & Benefits
- Intelligent Meeting Recap: Automatically generates meeting summaries, including notes, tasks, and personalized insights. AI organizes recordings into chapters and topics for easier navigation.
- Note: If a meeting is recorded or transcribed for 5 minutes or more, licensed users can view the AI recap, regardless of who created or recorded it. Unlicensed users won't see it, but it can be shared using the "Copy all" feature.
- Live Translated Captions: Provides real-time captioning in over 30 languages, improving accessibility and inclusivity for global teams.
- Advanced Webinar Capabilities: Includes attendee registration, automated confirmation emails, and engagement tracking. Supports up to 1,000 attendees. Basic webinar functionality is available without a premium license.
- Advanced Meeting Protections: Adds watermarking, sensitivity labels to classify and protect meeting content, and end-to-end encryption for sensitive discussions. Admins can restrict recording permissions to prevent unauthorized sharing.
- AI-Generated Backgrounds: Uses AI to create custom virtual backgrounds that enhance the appearance of a participant's real-world environment.
- Virtual Appointments: Streamlines scheduling and management of customer or client appointments with SMS notifications, branded waiting rooms, and usage analytics. Basic appointment scheduling is available without a premium license via Microsoft Bookings.
Common Use Cases
Teams Premium is commonly used for:
- Meeting follow-up and knowledge sharing: Reviewing AI-generated recaps and chaptered recordings to catch up on missed meetings or revisit key decisions without rewatching full recordings.
- Large-scale events and webinars: Hosting town halls, training sessions, and admitted-student or alumni events with registration, automated confirmations, and attendee engagement tracking.
- Multilingual and accessible meetings: Using live translated captions to support students, faculty, and staff who are non-native English speakers or who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Student and client scheduling: Managing advising, IT support, or administrative appointments with branded waiting rooms, SMS reminders, and usage reporting.
- Sensitive or confidential discussions: Applying watermarking, sensitivity labels, and end-to-end encryption for meetings involving HR, legal, or other confidential university business.
