Listserv Bulk Import Instructions

 

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Prior to making any changes to an existing Listserv, it is best practice to do a REVIEW of the list.  Reviewing a list can provide a copy of the current configuration and subscribers of the list so that in the event that the list just needs to be reviewed as is, or to restore the list to it's previous state if needed once changes are made.

 

To perform a REVIEW of a listserv, do the following:

  • While logged into Listserv, click List Management from the menu and select “LISTSERV Command”
  • In the ‘Command’ box type “review listname” where listname is the name of the listserv you want to REVIEW and click the “Enter Command” button.
  • You should soon receive an email from Listserv in your Inbox.  
  • This email will include the current configuration of the listserv along with a list of current subscribers.

Create a List of Subscribers

 

Create a Notepad (text only) file that contains only the email addresses of the users you wish to add to your listserv.  Note:  you may also want to include the recipient names for additional clarification, but this is optional.

 

Example: johndoe@temple.edu  John Doe

 

Save the file with the desired file name.  Make note of the location of where you have saved your text only file.  (Saving the file to the Windows desktop may make the file easier to locate).

 

 

Login to Listserv

 

Your listserv should be located at: listserv.temple.edu/archives.  Click the “Login Required” link.

  1. Login to your listserv using your full email address and AccessNet password.    

 

 

 

 

Manage Your List

Once logged in you will see a screen similar to the one below.  Click the “List Management” link and select “List Dashboard” from the dropdown options.  Enter the name of your listserv in the “Show Lists:” box and click the “Search” button.

You may need to scroll down to select your list from the search results.

Once your list Home Page is displayed Select “Subscriber Management” from the “List Management” drop down menu. Then click the “Bulk Operations” tab.

 

Note: If you would like to view the list of current subscribers to your listserv, click the “In Browser” link toward the bottom of this page.

Add desired subscribers

 

To simply add subscribers, select the radio button next to “Add the imported addresses” . . . .

To replace the existing subscribers with your new list, select the second radio button next to "Remove all subscribers" . . .

 

You can then click the “Choose File” button as shown below.

Navigate to the location where you saved the te
xt only notepad file you created earlier.

 

Click to select your file and then Click “Open.”

 

 

Your file name will appear next to the “Choose File” button.

Click the “Import” button.

 

 

You should then see a message at the top of the page similar to the one below:

 

ADD: no error, 5 recipients added, no entry changed, no duplicate, none forwarded

 

The email addresses and names have now been imported to your listserv.
