OneDrive App Setup for Unsupported Operating Systems

Overview
On newer versions of Windows and macOS, OneDrive uses
Files on Demand
to automatically manage your hard drive so you don't run out of disk space. To use this feature, your computer must be running:
If you are using an older version of Windows or macOS, try
updating your operating system
before setting up the Outlook app, so you can take advantage of Files On Demand. If you are using a university-owned computer, you can also reach out to your school, college or departmental support staff for assistance by submitting a
TUhelp request
.
If you are unable to update your computer, you may have to exclude some files from syncing to prevent your local disk space from running out. See details below:
Determining Which Windows Files to Sync
During the OneDrive setup process in
Windows 10 version 1703 or below
, you will be prompted to select which files to sync to your computer as shown in the following example. By default,
Sync all files and folders in OneDrive -Temple University
is selected.
In this example, the selected files to sync are greater than the remaining space on the local storage, as indicated at the bottom of the window. As a result, the
Next
button is grayed out.
To proceed, you will first need to deselect folders containing large amounts of data. These files will still be available to you, however, using the OneDrive web app at
portal.office.com
.

Determining Which Mac Files to Sync
During the OneDrive setup process in
macOS High Sierra or below
, you will be prompted to select which files to sync as shown in the following example. By default,
Sync all files and folders in OneDrive -Temple University
is selected.
In this example, the selected files to sync are greater than the remaining space on the local storage, as indicated at the bottom of the window. If you click
OK
to proceed, your computer will run out of disk space and become unstable.
Before continuing, you will first need to deselect folders containing large amounts of data. These files will still be available to you, however, using the OneDrive web app at
portal.office.com
.
