Panopto Lecture Capture

What is this Service? 

Panopto is Temple University’s lecture capture platform, used to record, manage, and share class lectures. It supports both scheduled recordings and ad hoc recordings in classrooms equipped with capture hardware. Students can review recorded lectures anytime, and faculty can easily manage content from a secure online platform.

Who is Eligible to use it?

Faculty teaching in supported lecture capture classrooms and students enrolled in courses using Panopto for lecture recordings

How do I use it?

Faculty should contact their school or college IT support to schedule recordings or request support. Students can access lecture recordings via their course’s Learning Management System (LMS), like Canvas or Blackboard.

Cost and Limitations

  • There is no cost to students or faculty to use Panopto.
  • Recordings are retained for 2 years university-wide, or 4 years for professional schools.
  • Panopto is not a live-streaming or conferencing tool - it is designed for recording and replay.
  • Some rooms may require support from IT for setup or troubleshooting hardware.
