Listserv

What is this Product?

LISTSERV is Temple University’s centrally supported email‑list platform. It lets you reach a defined audience with a single email address and supports two list types:

  • Discussion lists – two‑way forums where members can post and reply.
  • Announcement lists – one‑way lists for official notices, newsletters, or event reminders.

ITS provisions the lists, maintains the infrastructure, and manages the annual license with the vendor (L‑Soft).

Who is Eligible to use it?

  • Faculty and staff – may request Discussion or Announcement lists.
  • Sponsored affiliates – eligible with a faculty or staff sponsor.
  • Student organizations – must designate a faculty or staff member as a list owner.

How do I Request it?

Press 'Request Listserv' on the right hand side on this page. Allow 1-2 business days for provisioning. Owners will receive a confirmation when complete. Manage membership and settings at listserv.temple.edu. Knowledge‑base articles cover common tasks such as adding subscribers, enabling moderation, and sending messages. For assistance, contact the Technology Support Center.

Cost and Limitations

  • There is no charge to University departments or organizations. The license and server infrastructure are centrally funded by ITS.
  • Support for Listserv Maestro (marketing/analytics platform) is not included.
  • ITS does not author, moderate, or approve list content; owners are responsible for policy compliance (e.g., FERPA, CAN‑SPAM).
  • Deliverability issues caused by external recipient mail systems may be outside ITS control.
  • Large membership imports and advanced automation may extend turnaround times.
