Set up your Voice Mailbox
You will need a temporary 7-digit passcode to proceed. Telecommunications will provide you with the passcode at the time your request has been processed.
- From your new phone, press the VoiceMail Key.
- Enter your temporary default 7-digit passcode followed by the # key.
- At the prompt, create a new passcode. The passcode must be 6 to 12 digits and cannot be:
A single repeated number (e.g.,11111)
Your phone number or your phone number reversed
- When prompted, re-enter your passcode
- When prompted, record your name followed by the # key.
Change the Name on your Voice Mailbox
- Press the Voice Mail key. Then enter your passcode followed by the # key.
- Press 2 to access the Greetings menu.
- Press 1 to record your name
- Press 2 to listen to current name recording.
Create a Personal Greeting
- Press the Voice Mail key. Then enter your passcode followed by the # key.
- Press 1 and perform one or more of the following:
• Press 2 to create a busy greeting for when you are on the phone.
• Press 3 to create a no answer greeting when you are away from your desk.
Change your Personal Greeting
- Press the Voice Mail key. Then enter your passcode followed by the # key.
- Press 1 and perform one of the following:
• Press 2 then 1 to change your busy greeting when you are on the phone . Press the # key when you are done recording, then press 2 to hear your new recording.
• Press 3 then 1 to change your no answer greeting . Press the # key when you are done recording, then press 2 to hear your new recording.
Access Your Voicemail
- From your phone : Press the Voice Mail key or dial *62 . Then enter your passcode followed by the # key.
- From another phone : Dial 1-9599 (on-campus) or 215-204-9599 (off-campus). Then follow the prompts to enter your mailbox ID (your internal five-digit phone number) followed by the # key and passcode followed by the # key.
Retrieve Your Messages
If you retrieve messages by phone, by default, there is a 30 minute storage limit for your messages. This can be increased to 100 minutes depending on the need. If you retrieve messages by email, there is no storage limit.
From your phone
- Press the Voice Mail key or dial *62 .
- Enter your passcode followed by the # key.
- Press 1 .
- Press 1 .
From another phone
- Dial 1-9599 (on-campus) or 215-204-9599 (off-campus).
- Follow the prompts to enter your mailbox ID (your internal five-digit phone number) followed by the # key and passcode followed by the # key.
- Press 1 .
- Press 1 .
Delete Voicemail Messages
You can delete voicemail using either of the following two methods. Once messages are deleted, they cannot be restored.
- To delete a single message in your mailbox, press 1 to access your mailbox and then press 7 to delete the message.
- To delete all messages in your mailbox, press 1 to access your mailbox and then press 5 to delete all messages.

While you are listening to a message, make a selection below:
1 - Skip backward 3 seconds
2 - Pause/resume playback
3 - Skip forward 3 seconds
4 - Skip to beginning of message
6 - Skip to end of message
- Review Message Menu (After Leaving Voicemail)
After leaving a voicemail message for someone, press the # key and then make a selection below:
1 - Erase message and record again
2 - Listen or view current message
3 - Hang up to send message
6 - Set or clear the urgent indicator
7 - Set or clear the confidential indicator
* - Cancel recording and transfer to your voice portal password prompt
# - Repeat menu
Retrieve Your Messages From Email
You also have the option of forwarding your voicemail messages to your Temple email account. The sender will appear as UnifiedMessaging@mail.temple.edu and the message will contain a sound file attachment with the extension .wav . When you open the message, you can then play/download the attachment.
If you are currently having your voicemail delivered to the phone and want to have your voicemail delivered to your email, you can submit a request for this service by clicking the Request Telephone Service button on the Landline Telephones Service page.
After selecting the voicemail file attachment, you may be prompted to Download the file or Connect more apps . In this case, select Download . Then, if prompted, open the file with Windows Media Player (PC) or iTunes (Mac). For iPhones/iPads no additional steps are needed. For Android devices, you may need to download an audio player app from the Google Play store to hear the message.
Reset Your Passcode
If you are locked out of your voicemail because you entered an incorrect password too many times,see the steps below to reset your passcode:
- Log in to TUportal and click the Telecom Self Service link on the left.
- On the Welcome to Telecom Self Service page, click the Telephone menu and select Reset Voice Mail Passcode .
- Click the three check boxes under "I Understand." Then click the Click Here to Reset Voice Mail Passcode button.
- You will receive a new temporary password via email. When you dial-in to your voice mail using this password, you will be prompted to set a new password.
If you are unable to reset your passcode using Telecom Self Service, please click the Request Telephone Service button on the Landline Telephones Service page.
Forward a Message
To forward a message to another person:
Press 9 and then press 2 and enter the extension.
Transfer a Call to Voicemail
To transfer a call directly to voicemail:
- While on a phone call, press the Xfer button.
- Press *55 and perform one of the following:
• To transfer to your own voice mailbox, press #
• To transfer to another user’s voicemail box, enter the extension, followed by #
• To cancel, press *
