Overview

Information Technology Services sets up new computers to properly connect to the university network. Systems are set up to comply with university policies and Information Security standards. Computers set up by Information Technology Services will receive support for the life of the system warranty.

Information Technology Services supports Main, HSC, TUCC, and Ambler campuses.

Note: Schools, Colleges, and Departments having dedicated IT support staff may receive service levels that differ from this offering. School, College, and Departmental IT staff will work directly with their clients once the requests are submitted.

Computer setup includes:

  • Backing up business-related data from a prior system and transferring data to the new system
  • Configuring workstation to access either a wired or wireless university network
  • Installing university site licensed approved software as part of a computer image
  • Installing additional licensed software as needed
  • Acting as liaison when vendor support is required to install third party software
  • Connecting to all necessary devices, such as printers and scanners, required for daily business operations

Base Setup

The base setup for a new Microsoft Windows computer includes:

  • Windows 10 Enterprise with available Windows updates
  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Windows Defender for Endpoint with security settings configuration
  • Adobe Reader
  • Firefox
  • Chrome

The base setup for a new macOS computer includes:

  • Monterey
  • Microsoft Office 2019
  • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint with security settings configuration
  • Adobe Reader
  • Firefox
  • Chrome

Eligibility

  • All university employees
  • Authorized guests in a university office

Requirements

  • New equipment must be at the installation site prior to submitting a setup request.
  • A live university network connection for each computer must be available at the location. If you do not have a network connection, request the service .
  • The requestor must have an AccessNet account .
  • All software on the system must be university site licensed. If any of the software is not, a purchase receipt is required. In addition, the Business staff of the requesting department must manage ownership of the software.
  • The requestor must be present when finalizing the system settings.
  • After a computer has been set up, employees are responsible for backing up local files and locally stored application data.

Timeframe

This service is available business days, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The time depends on the number of systems to be set up. For one or two systems, service will generally be provided within five days. For three or more systems, Information Technology Services will contact the requestor to schedule the setup.

Cost

This service is provided at no charge.
